Casino Loots: Building a Finnish Player Base That Actually Sticks
How SocialHook scaled Casino Loots in Finland to 1,230 loyal depositors and a 55.8% second-deposit rate by optimising for retention over raw volume.
A small market punishes lazy marketing
Finland is one of those markets people underestimate. It is small, so there is not much room to waste budget hunting for the wrong player. But the players who do deposit are valuable and loyal - Nordic audiences stick around if you treat them right. That combination means the math only works if you optimise for the players who stay, from the very first euro.
Casino Loots came to us with a fun, gamified, treasure-themed product and almost no paid-social traction. The brief was refreshingly honest: stop chasing cheap signups, find us Finnish players who actually keep playing.
Why Finland is deceptively hard
On paper a smaller market sounds easier. In practice it is less forgiving. There are fewer people to reach, so audience fatigue arrives faster and a few weeks of weak creative can stall an entire account. And because the average Finnish player is worth more, a campaign that optimises for cheap registrations quietly fills the funnel with people who never deposit - and you do not notice until the cohort data comes back thin.
So we made an early, slightly uncomfortable decision: spend the first month deliberately small, learn what a real depositing Finnish player looks like, and refuse to celebrate registration numbers.
How the five months actually played out
€9,150 test budget, 47 depositors at €194.68 each. Expensive on purpose - this month bought data, not profit.
Swapped global creative for Finnish-language UGC. 138 depositors and CPA fell to €140.72 almost immediately.
A gamified “Aarteenetsija” angle leaning into the loot theme became the control. 252 FTDs at €119.76.
Lookalikes seeded from second-deposit players, not all depositors. 356 FTDs at €108.54.
€44,910 spent, 437 depositors, €102.77 each - the lowest cost of the run with retention still climbing.
By Month 5 the account was spending nearly five times the test budget and acquiring players more cheaply than on day one. Totals: €142,300 invested, 1,230 first-time depositors, a blended €115.69 each, from 5,104 registrations.
The creative system that fit the market
We did not run a sprawling creative test. In a small market that wastes reach. We ran a tight system built around three ideas.
Local creators and native copy, never translated global assets. Finnish players spot the difference instantly and scroll past anything that feels imported.
The treasure-hunter angle gave the ads a personality the gambling category usually lacks, and it carried the brand identity straight into the creative.
We tested when Finnish players engage, not only what they respond to. Evening and weekend windows consistently produced the higher-quality depositors.
The number that actually mattered: they stayed
Acquisition cost is only half the story in a market this valuable. Retention is the half that pays the bills, and this is where the cohort earned its keep.
Over half came back to deposit again - well above the category norm.
More than a third reached a third deposit inside 30 days.
Strong week-one stickiness for a freshly acquired cohort.
More than a quarter still active a month in.
The cohort at a glance
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Registration to FTD | 24.1% |
| Average first deposit | €110 |
| Deposits per player, 30 days | 3.2 |
| Blended FTD CPA | €115.69 |
A 24.1% registration-to-deposit rate and 3.2 deposits per player is what “quality over volume” looks like when you actually commit to it.
”We were nervous about how small Finland is - we assumed paid social just would not scale here. SocialHook proved the opposite. They built the whole thing on Finnish creative and went after loyal players, and our second-deposit rate is the best it has ever been.”

The takeaway
Small markets reward discipline and punish shortcuts. We could have filled Casino Loots’ funnel with cheap Finnish registrations in week two and shown a flattering CPA. Instead we spent month one learning, built for the player who comes back, and let retention compound. In a market like Finland, that is the only version of paid social that actually pays.
